2014 SWTX Border SBDC State Star: Lisa Barr

Dean Farhang Niroomand, UHV School of Business Administration, is honored to announce that Lisa Barr, Associate Director of UHV Small Business Development Center (UHV SBDC) has been awarded the State Star Award 2014 for the SouthWest Texas Border Region SBDC. Dean Niroomand notes that “The State Star Award recognizes Lisa’s extraordinary efforts to achieve and support the goals and mission of the SouthWest Texas Border Region SBDC Network.” Lisa was recognized as the top performing business advisor out of over 70 business advisors in the TXSBDC Network. The award also recognizes Lisa’s commitment to service excellence in the following areas:

  • Exemplary performance and commitment to small business
  • Demonstrated economic development achievements
  • Significant contribution to the Network program
  • Dedication to furthering SouthWest Texas Border Region SBDC’s mission

Lisa serves the SBDC as a Senior Business Advisor and Associate Director for the UH-Victoria SBDC. She is twice re-certified within the professional development program as a CBA IV, and works diligently with the UHV SBDC advisors in support of their advancement in both their CBA levels and productivity. Lisa is also the lead for the regional subcommittee for business advisor professional development. Lisa is a member of the regional Client Impact Survey Action Team for sharing best practices, is an adjunct professor teaching Management 4303 for UHV, has mentored students in the Career & Technology Education (CTE) program for Victoria ISD, and has worked with the Yoakum and Cuero EDCs to help facilitate their grant programs for small business owners.

Lisa earned the network’s top award with FY’13 performance of 284 client jobs created & retained, 32 client businesses started & expanded, 44 client investments, 1253 total client hours, and 53 long-term clients. Her director, Joe Humphreys, noted that “Lisa shows up to workevery day with a great attitude, smile on her face, and the desire to help our clients and other advisors”.

She was honored at the Regional SBA Awards Ceremony at UTSA in May. Lisa accepted the State Star Award at the ASBDC National Convention on September 9, 2014 that was held at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, TX. Lisa also earned this recognition in 2011 at the National Convention in San Diego.

Lisa is a graduate of Yoakum High School and a graduate of UHV with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration and a Master’s of Science in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship.
