UTSA IED Honored with Small Business Advocate of the Year Award

(July 18, 2012) The UTSA Institute for Economic Development received the inaugural Small Business Advocate of the Year award at the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Small Business Leaders Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, July 18. The luncheon was created to recognize outstanding achievements in business endeavors and share their stories with the community. A total of eight awards were presented, seven to local businesses and one to the UTSA IED for its continued partnership and exemplary service to local small businesses. Five out of the seven award recipients were current clients of the UTSA IED, or had utilized services during their business venture.

According to event chair Marilyn Hartman, “Small business is where the innovations take place. They are swifter, more flexible and often more daring than big businesses. They keep intact the heritage of ingenuity and enterprise, and they help keep the ‘American Dream’ within reach for millions of Americans.”

UTSA’s Associate Vice President for Economic Development, Robert McKinley, accepted the award on behalf of the University and Institute. McKinley expressed, “just as a UTSA education helps students realize their full potential as leaders and professionals, the services of our Institute help businesses realize their full potential too”
